SPORTS clubs will be able to start using the Yanchep playing fields and clubrooms early next year, according to the City of Wanneroo.

A spokeswoman said the turf laid this winter had a 13-week settling in period before it could be used.

She said Bistel Construction was due to finish the building in November, and both it and the ovals would be available for club use from January.

“Current works on site include the winter planting which is nearing completion,” she said.

Capricorn Beach estate land sales agent Richard Cull welcomed the turf laying, and said the facility would be enjoyed by residents in Yanchep and neighbouring suburbs.

“The major sporting facility includes two multi-use ovals catering for football, little athletics, ruby, soccer and cricket, as well as hard courts for netball and basketball,” he said.

“In particular, basketball courts bring back fond childhood memories for me when I played basketball during my youth in Manchester, England.”

Mr Cull said other infrastructure projects included a $12 million neighbourhood centre in Capricorn estate, where construction recently started, and the future rail extension.
