THE Yanchep Two Rocks Community Recreation Association will celebrate its 40th anniversary next month.

The association will hold a free community event in Two Rocks on April 7 with the Sunset Markets included in the program.

President Julie Otremba said having The Reef, Two Rocks and the City of Wanneroo as sponsors had helped to ensure all of the entertainment would be free.

“To be able to provide this big event for our local community is very exciting,” she said.

“We are fortunate enough to have a team of volunteers on hand to secure that funding so we are able to better provide a wide variety of entertainment.”

Mrs Otremba said there would be a display of historic memorabilia from past events from the region, including the Birdman Rally and the former Atlantis Marine Park.

“As we’re celebrating our 40th year, we wanted to show the community just how far we’ve come in that time and what we’ve been able to achieve,” she said.

Mrs Otremba appealed for past members to contact the group if they had memorabilia to add to the historic display.

“People from all over Perth often reminisce about the old Two Rocks and Yanchep and this will provide them with an opportunity to take a trip down memory lane,” she said.

Having volunteered in the Yanchep and Two Rocks community for more than 20 years, Mrs Otremba has organised many events and hoped this would be well received.

“We’ve got a huge line up of kids’ entertainment in our ‘Wild child’ zone including a climbing wall, roaming fairies, jumping castles (and) sumo suits,” she said.

“We also have a big line up of musicians who will play live music on the day.”

The Little Mermaid Theatre Group will be involved, marking its 20th anniversary this year as well, and members will roam the market in period costumes.

Founder Ted Dowling said the group started in 1998 with the Blessing of the Fleet and had done many performances in a variety of venues, including Two Rocks Shopping Centre and the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre.

Mr Dowling said they would set up a ‘heritage and the sea’ exhibition and the event would be a reunion for people involved over the past two decades.

The 40th celebration, with stalls from community groups, schools and businesses, will run from 11am to 4pm on April 7.
