Yanchep won’t give up

All those present at the Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association meeting on March 25 supported a straw poll to have Butler MLA John Quigley investigate documents from the negotiations between the City of Wanneroo and Yanchep Beach Joint Venture, which the City ended in January.

Mr Quigley received two thick files of documents through his Freedom of Information application, which was initially rejected ” but he successfully appealed against that decision.

Mr Quigley said he had met with the developer and then, separately, with Wanneroo’s chief executive Daniel Simms, Mayor Tracey Roberts and the City’s legal advisor.

Mrs Roberts was the guest speaker at the TRYRA meeting, where questions focused on the aborted project and new plans to develop a single oval at Charnwood Park in Two Rocks.

‘The concern has been that we are expecting the developer to develop land on his private land ahead of time,’ she said.

Mrs Roberts said they realised late last year the risk factor to both parties was too high, and ended negotiations to explore development possibilities at Charnwood instead because the City owned that land.
