YANCHEP resident Bob Ellisdon and his two-year-old daughter visited Old Nursery Park in Yanchep last Wednesday following heavy rainfall on June 7.

The Outback Bob Photography owner took these pictures of the flooded lawns and his daughter wading through the water.

The City of Wanneroo assets director Harminder Singh said Old Nursery Park serves as a storm water drainage basin for the surrounding roads.

“There are two drainage outlets in the park situated in the middle of the park and the eastern end,” he said.

“The outlets drain into vegetated swales that are designed to accommodate rain events.

“Recent heavy rains caused some flooding in the park with no permanent damage caused to the turf, vegetated garden beds or surrounding infrastructure.

“Historically water has pooled in the western end of the park after significant rain events due to the slight gradient in the park.

“Due to the amount of cap rock in the soil profile, filtration of water into the ground is slower than that of a sand soil profile.”

Mr Singh said residents should be mindful of excess water in the park after significant rain events and avoid flooded areas.
