It is the sort of detail John knew about countless boxers, including 1930s American heavyweights such as Joe Louis.
He had a phenomenal memory for detail and was known for his boxing writing, court reporting and feature stories in a WA and interstate career that we can proudly say included our papers for many years.
When he retired a few years back, he remained in touch, regularly calling to inquire of journalists past and present and about our newspapers.
Having died more than a month ago after a battle with cancer, he will miss the 40th anniversary of our foundation paper, the Wanneroo Times, in August.
And we shall miss him.
Box on, John.
