Congratulations to worthy volunteers

Bill Brookes, who has served for nine years, and Dave Mulholland, of Yanchep, and Ocean Reef’s Ray Turner were acknowledged in Department of Parks and Wildlife volunteer awards.

The light also shone during International Volunteers Day on Girrawheen-based Christian Brother Geoff Seaman and his interest-free loan schemes.

Speaking in Parliament, Girrawheen MLA Margaret Quirk said Br Seaman had started a refugee travel loans scheme and provided loans for the disadvantaged for basic household goods such as fridges. He had helped nearly 100 people with $1.5 million.

She also highlighted Ballajura Community College P & C president Tina Darling, of Marangaroo, and Barbara Colson, of Warwick, who won the 2013 WA Seniors Intergenerational Award.

Ms Colson had established six Voice, Interests and Education of Women clubs across WA, with more than 200 members sponsoring the education of 38 disadvantaged children through The Smith Family charity.

Congratulations to all our volunteers.
