Elderly light up the airwaves

720 ABC Radio broadcast an excellent segment on going inside WA’s aged care system.

Particularly impressive was the articulate Peggy Holroyd, who at 88 was a great advocate for maintaining independence in your own home with outside help.

While she feared the institutionalisation of residential aged care, the audience heard from 94-year-old Mrs Mountain who entered a nursing home ‘of my own volition’ and found it ‘extremely good, a second home from home’.

Also contributing to the program were representatives of carers, who strike up relationships with those they’re looking after.

Hats off to them and, if you didn’t hear the broadcast, I recommend you visit the ABC online where the program is available for download.
