But why no similar outcry over the plight of sows in intensive ‘piglet farming’, which involves the incarceration of the animals in areas so small they are unable to turn around and forced down with iron bars to feed their young?

If I were to keep my dog in similar conditions, I would rightly be prosecuted by the RSPCA, or even imprisoned.

Pigs are as intelligent as dogs, with the same sensitivities, so how is this allowed to happen?

Sadly, I know the answer – profit over ethics.

It’s simply wrong and I think if more people were aware of the plight of these animals they would protest as I am doing.

Thankfully, one of the big supermarkets now sells only free-range pork and therefore I hope the barbaric ‘piglet farming’ practice will eventually cease.
