Simple solution

Janice TeoNorth Coast Times

THERE have been many letters lately about roadside dumping of rubbish and why.

One of the main contributing factors could be the exorbitant cost of disposal in the shire.

I recently took a standard trailer load of building waste, mostly timber off-cuts, to Tamala Park and was astounded to be charged $132 to dump it.

A half-boot load of styrene was $16 and the quarry dump wanted $70 for a trailer load of clean, new sand (twice the cost of buying it).

Many people can't afford these hugely excessive dumping fees and opt for the easy alternative.

While I certainly do not condone roadside dumping and littering, I now understand more why it happens.

The solution is to drop dumping charges to a realistic level.
