Downie looks set for Games: Swimming

Tyler BrownNorth Coast Times

At last month’s State Open and Age long-course championships, the 19-year-old was the only competitor in the women’s multi-class 100m breaststroke but she finished the swim within the national qualifying time on the opening night of the competition.

She also swam the women’s multi-class 100m butterfly solo and was commended for her performance and sportsmanship in and out of the water when she spoke after the race about her “rivals”.

Downie rounded out the four-day competition with another gold medal in the women’s multi-class 100m backstroke and went on to win the inaugural mixed multi-class 50m freestyle sprint championship trophy from fellow Paralympians Joshua Hofer and Jeremy McClure.
