More than 400 juniors representing the two clubs headed to Mount Claremont in a battle for the annual Challenge Shield.

It was the first time the competition was held at WA’s premium athletics complex.

Joondalup emerged victorious to retain the shield from 2012, despite Ridgewood making a late surge towards the end of the November 30 meet.

The rain did not mar the occasion, with the world-class track producing many personal bests for the athletes.

The competition offered a solid preparation for this weekend’s State relay championships.
