Lancelin Ocean Classic: Steve Allen wins fourth consecutive title

Allen was in a tight battle with Swiss opponent Patrik Diethelm, but finished ahead by a little over a minute and a half in the marquee Ledge to Lancelin Marathon.

“The wind kicked in at noon giving us plenty of time to check our gear before the start,” he said.

“I am stoked to win here again with such a huge fleet of fast racers.

“I was also happy to pass all the kite surfers after they started on the water 100m ahead of us and had a 200m shorter first reach. Just one caught me back at the finish when I slowed to check where to go through the last marks.”

The 43-year-old’s effort in outdoing the kitesurfers as well as the windsurfers earned him the crown of fastest entrant on any watercraft.

Local racer Alty Frisby won the kiteboarding category, while Switzerland’s Karin Jaggi was best of the women’s windsurfers.

Rachael Hughes claimed victory in the women’s kiteboarding.

In the paddle boarding, Brendan Rice and Julie Jenkinson were triumphant in the men’s and women’s categories.
