Lions great to speak

Mark DonaldsonNorth Coast Times

In a coup for local rugby fans, Lions’ and England legend Richard Hill will visit Arena Joondalup on Friday to reminisce on his illustrious career.

The hard-as-nails flanker, who retired in 2008, was in the English side that shattered Australia’s World Cup dream in 2003.

He made five appearances for the Lions during his 76-Test career.

Western Force players Salesi Ma’afu and Kyle Godwin join Hill at the Joondalup Brothers-hosted dinner.

The Lions meet the Force at Subiaco Oval tomorrow night in the first of their nine-game tour of Australia.

Ma’afu described those chosen for the match as ‘the lucky few’.

‘If you’re fortunate enough to get a run against these guys it’s a great opportunity ” it’ll be talked about for a long time,’ he said.

He looked forward to joining Hill at Friday’s event.

‘I have a lot of respect for him and I’ve been a big fan of him as a player.’

The Lions face the Wallabies for the Tom Richards Cup in a three-Test series starting June 22.
