KINROSS teenager Jessica Claxton will realise a long-term goal when she represents Australia at the World Triathlon Championships.
The 16-year-old Mindarie Senior College student is the youngest athlete selected for the national under-19 team in Mexico in September.
“I wasn’t expecting it; I was very excited when I got told,” she said.
“I’m the only girl (on the team) who hasn’t done an international race yet, so that will be a bit nerve racking.”
Jessica started triathlons when she was 12 and qualified for a national competition that same year.
“I like getting to meet everyone from different states; it has a good social side,” she said.
She has 11 training sessions per week, including with Breakers Swim Club in Craigie.
“It does get tiring, but I just push through it,” she said.
“You have to keep your goals in your head.”
Jessica will compete in Japan and Singapore prior to the world championships and said she was looking forward to the experience.
Her aim is to one day make the Commonwealth and Olympic Games teams.
“I’ll just keep doing my best,” she said.
