NORTHERN Beaches Cycling Club has gone from fifth to second place in the Masters Road Racing Series.
The club fielded riders in all grades at the Casuarina meet at the weekend with three riders stepping up a level. Justin Schultz moved into the A Grade competition, Nick Vroomans advanced to B Grade and Chris Howard progressed to C Grade. New rider Ray Bergin joined the squad.
Tim James was the club’s highest finisher of the event, skilfully timing his sprint to win the B Grade race.
Edward Rose in E Grade and Neil Vrooman in D Grade both achieved second place finishes.
Sunday’s Masters racing is at Chidlow.
Also on Sunday, juniors will compete in the Pickering Brook road series. The format has an individual time trial and graded road races from A to F.
As a fledgling Mountain Bike club, Northern Beaches had participants in the Trek Duo race held at Marrinup last weekend.
Greg Pengelly partnered with Andrew Hudson to take third in the Masters Male 100+ category with a time of 3 hours 49 minutes.
