The 25km marathon from Ledge Point to Lancelin will see windsurfers and kitesurfers racing together for the first time in the downwind race on January 16.

As well as the 25km race, competitions from January 14-17 include windsurfing waves, kitesurfing freestyle and kitesurfing waves.

The event will also be open to ocean kayaks and stand-up paddlers, and Gary Maughan, a member of Perth’s paddling community, welcomed the addition of his sport.

“Our community is growing every year, and we’ve been looking for a long distance ocean race to challenge our enthusiastic members and provide an elite standard to them to aim for,” he said.

“I expect at least 50 competitive athletes from our association will participate, either stand up paddle or by ocean kayak.”

Next year’s festivities will see the Lancelin Lobster Brunch added to the events menu, plus free yoga classes on the beach.
