The minor premiers defeated Cervantes 10.13 (73) to 9.15 (69) in Moora, ending the Tiger Sharks’ quest for seven consecutive flags.

Lancelin led at three quarter-time, as they did at each break, despite Cervantes dominating the first 15 minutes of the third term to lead by 14 points. Lancelin kicked four goals in 10 minutes to go into the last quarter 11 points up.

The lead changed a couple of times in the final term before Brad Hardingham’s long set shot for Cervantes was touched on the line about 90 seconds before the final siren sounded.

Cervantes, who had former West Perth players Clayton Lasscock, Callum Chambers, Steve Morgan, Brent Lecras, Tyson Lord, Josh Pearce and Tom Parker, had not lost a grand final since 1988, winning 14 flags in that time.

The Lancelin Pirates included television program The Recruit contestant Ryan Smith and former AFL-listed player Warren Benjamin, Jason Hart, who kicked four goals, and midfielder Connor Mills, who won the Roger Tonkin Medal for best afield.
