NORTH Coast Sharks and Wanneroo rugby clubs will play the inaugural Klae Deeg Cup in Butler this Saturday in memory of a former coach at both clubs.

Sharks vice-president Christian Cano said the May 4 match commemorated Klae Deeg, who died in December 2017.

“He was a key figure for both clubs, having coached their youth teams for a number of years,” Cano said.

“Klae loved the game of rugby and enjoyed helping children learn great life skills through coaching.

“He was loved by parents and children alike.

“This Saturday is a fitting way to celebrate Klae’s contribution to both clubs, with both of Klae’s children – Dylan and Mitch – playing on the day.

“Mayor Tracy Roberts will be presenting the trophy to the winning team ; the fixture will become an annual event in the rugby calendar, with the winning team keeping the trophy for the year.”

Games kick off from 9am at Kingsbridge Park.
