Swimmers grant school an audience

The 2012 Paralympic swimmer Grant Patterson and 2000 and 2004 Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh visited Quinns Rocks Primary School on November 13.

Principal John Nowicki said students researched the two athletes and prepared questions.

Known as a larrikin of the Australian swimming team, Patterson, who was born with a rare form of dwarfism, diastrophic dysplasia, brought the scooter he uses to the school.

Having retired from swimming in 2008, Welsh also caught up with a distant relative, Lin Welsh, who teaches at Quinns Rocks Primary.
