With just one month of training, the local cyclists took it up to their more experienced Junior C-grade opponents when they travelled to the SpeedDome road track in Midvale on December 8.
Midland Cycling Club youth riders were dominant on their home course, but Northern Beaches rider Shawn Wright stuck with a well-organised breakaway by the Midland cyclists to finish fourth.
Local brothers Mathew (sixth) and Joshua (10th) Lewis joined him in the top 10.
Youngest rider Curtis Atkinson, just eight years old, showed true grit to recover from an early fall and complete the race.

The Northern Beaches squad will continue to challenge for the Criterium Series, with a keen focus on the Yanchep National Park Criterium on February 2.
