AN Iranian film due to screen in Joondalup next month won the best foreign language film at this year’s Academy Awards.
The Salesman adds the Oscar to its 2016 Cannes Film Festival awards, including best screenplay for director Asghar Farhadi and best actor for Shahab Hosseini.
It also received nominations for best film at Cannes and for best motion picture, foreign language at the Golden Globe Awards.
The film will screen at Joondalup Pines at ECU from April 11-16 as part of the Lotterywest Festival Films program, as well as at UWA Somerville from April 3-9.
It is about a couple who move to a new flat after an earthquake damages their apartment in Tehran and explores the psychology of a marriage.
One evening a mysterious incident occurs at home and Emad struggles with his wife Rana’s subsequent withdrawal.
Emad seems chivalrous, yet a growing impatience with his wife reveals his inner control freak.
