At this election, I have made it clear that I am standing independently and I will work with those Councillors who the community elect. I am proud of my track record of delivering local hospital, school and transport expansions for the Joondalup community.
The most important values I bring to public life are honesty and integrity.  In more than 10 years of public service, I have delivered on every commitment that I have made. When I say I will do something, I do it.

Why I am running for Council:
I want to be Mayor to represent the best interests of our local community as a strong, effective and experienced voice on Council. I am open and approachable and will bring a fresh perspective as Mayor. I will use my experience and proven leadership skills to deliver good, accountable local government in Joondalup and provide sensible management of Ratepayers’ funds. My priorities include building community facilities, upgrading local roads and beautifying our parks and streetscapes. As a former Environment Minister, I am also passionate about protecting our unique environment.
Qualified with a Master’s Degree in Architecture, I will ensure good planning and design outcomes for developments in Joondalup and will consult the community before making decisions. As Mayor, I will be available to hear residents’ concerns directly, I will stand up for and represent local people in the community and help them in every way possible.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • The capital works commitments which I am outlining as a part of my campaign including Ocean Reef Marina, Percy Doyle Redevelopment and completing the coastal footpath

My family and I have lived in the City of Joondalup for 30 years. I have been proud to represent residents within the City of Joondalup for 25 years, firstly as Mayor in 1992, then as Member for Hillarys from 1993-2017. I’m a true independent, free of any outside political and business influences. My pledge to Joondalup residents is that I’ll work hard to keep rate rises to an absolute minimum, with no increase in 2018. I’ll bring the focus back to providing essential services and infrastructure in the suburbs and not just the city centre. I’ll keep local parks for community use. I don’t support wasting $100million of your money on a Performing Arts Centre.  I want ratepayers respected and listened to. My platform is ‘Honesty, Integrity, Experience, Commitment, Enthusiasm’ and I’ll stand up for what is right and act in the best interests of the community.

Why I’m running for council:
I believe the City of Joondalup has drifted away from its core purpose, that is, representing the ratepayers. In the past few years, we have seen decisions being made without proper consultation by the Mayor and Councillors with local residents. Instead of listening and respecting the ratepayers, they have foisted their own personal views and caused a lot of unnecessary angst. When you see the Mayor championing the interests of a professional football team to take over a local park, used extensively by the local residents, particularly children, then you know it’s time for a change. And I believe I can bring that change. I will not support any decisions that go against the majority of local residents. My door will always be open for residents to come and see me to share any concerns they have. I want to be the “People’s Mayor.”

My top three priorities if elected:

  • Ensure NO rate increase in 2018 and keep any future rate rises to an absolute minimum
  • Introduce concessions for families and seniors to offset higher utility charges and cost of living expenses
  • Ensure our suburbs are safe and secure

Gary Morris is a proud family man, husband, father, and grandfather. He has lived in City of Joondalup for over 20-plus years. He has worked in the aviation industry for nearly 30 years. Gary is heavily involved with local schools and junior sporting clubs. He’s a board member of the Connolly primary school, and was the schools P&C President from 2016-17 and Vice President from 2013-16.

He is a junior coach at the Joondalup Brothers Rugby Union club, and is also the junior Vice President. Gary is committed to securing the successful growth of the City of Joondalup. He will advocate for more funding towards infrastructure programs, to improve local roads, parks,health centres, school parking, and sporting clubs. Gary is extremely passionate about the City of Joondalup community, he wants to cut non essential expenditure, and freeze rate rise for a two year period.

Why I’m running for council:
As a concerned resident, I am tired of the political elite, and business leaders within our community dictating, and controlling the prosperity, and destiny of our city. I want to bring about certainty for all residents within the City of Joondalup. Joondalup city, and its city centre has the potential of being a real destination for leading businesses to move this city into the future. We need to promote, and encourage the growth of the entertainment and cuisine precinct as a destination hub like the western suburbs. I am a grassroots Mayoral, and North Central Ward candidate, I have the ability and passion to drive the City of Joondalup forward, for future generations of City of Joondalup residents.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • A two year freeze on rate rises, non-essential council expenditure, and a further 10% rate decrease for pensioners/retirees.
  • Taking ownership of the R40 zoning that is affecting residents throughout the City of Joondalup, providing leadership, and certainty for residents.
  • Enclosed dog parks throughout the City of Joondalup, creating a social atmosphere for dog owners, and their beloved K9 family members.

An independent Candidate for Mayor with 25+ years’ experience in Local Government, driving efficiency and transparency in Western Australia, nationally and internationally. I am passionate about the need for communities to be part of the decision-making process. Councillors need to actively seek out your opinions and ideas, prior to Council decisions.

I have no ties to local social or business interests so I can put community interests first at all times. Why I’m running for council:
As a single father of two young girls I decided to run as I am fed up with what is happening in our community and how our voices are being ignored. I was worried as to what our City would look like for my children’s children and I want them to enjoy such a high quality of living. I believe my experience can help create trust and partnership between the wider community and our Local Government.

Thinking about all of this and how I can reduce costs, help increase the quality of services and support the Councillors to excel at community engagement led me to declaring my intentions some months ago. About me:
I have lived in Edgewater for almost nine years and before that I lived in Padbury. I finished my WACE certificate at Duncraig Senior High School. I attended Edith Cowan University where I graduated with a degree in history and politics. I have Grandparents, Parents and younger Siblings living within the City of Joondalup. I have enjoyed playing various sporting activities within the city, including time with Whitfords City FC and ECU Jets Sports Club. I have been involved with charity organisations such as SAFE Perth. I am totally impartial and independent, self-funding my campaign. I have no affiliation to any religious organisations and I do not own any businesses within the city.

Why I’m running for council:
I am running for Mayor because I want to bring a new voice and a fresh outlook to the City of Joondalup. I have no preconception of what should be so I am more willing to look at what could be. I am running a different campaign trying to engage those who would not usually vote. I have to be creative and I want to put forward new ideas for residents to think about.  I want to look at tomorrows solutions as well as todays problems. The decisions we make today will affect many of us for a lifetime. That is why I would rather commit to long-term sustainable rates than just two years to get elected. Current Central Ward Councillor on City of Joondalup. Have lived in the City for over 30 years and have been actively involved in community affairs. Have extensive experience in the real world being the CEO of the Poliwka Group of companies. Have a strong financial background being a Fellow Institute of Public Accountants. My history on Council has been to strongly represent  the ratepayers’ positions, even when recommendations from administration and other Councillors was to the contrary.  Married with four adult children who complete the board of the Poliwka Group. Am passionately  independent and accountable to nobody but ratepayers. Do not believe in extravagant public money expenditure on issues such as the Performing Art Centre. Do support  returning the horses to Whitfords beach. I offer ratepayers a strong voice to protect your quality of life and contain unnecessary rate increases. Why I’m running for council:
My reason to run is to continue to work with, through and for ratepayers. The City needs strong independent representation. I don’t believe political parties or extreme ideologies should interfere with sound, financially prudent  local government decisions. I feel privileged to represent ratepayers to maintain quality of life. I take an overall community view when making decisions, but not at the expense of ratepayers adversely affected. The three years previous to my involvement, the rates increased on averaged over 6% per annum. The last two years averaged just over 2.22%. I believe further savings in operational expenditure are possible. I am dedicated to protecting our environment and maintaining our parks and sporting facilities for the benefit of all. The City does not exist for the benefit of Elected Members or its staff. It is there to serve and represent the ratepayers and be directed by them.

I have been very fortunate to come across good people along the way and have learnt from them a great deal, now I would like to give back as your representative at the City of Joondalup.

Why I’m running for council:
I am a proud Australian and proud of the achievements we the people have made in this country over generations, I want to build on that. It is my belief that with deep and complete sincerity and loyalty to the people, I along with the rest of elected body and the council, can achieve far beyond our imaginations. I’m 58 years of age recently retired from the workforce as an IT Manager with Brookfield Rail. Married with two grownup boys, I have lived in the City of Joondalup for the past 32 years and worked in the community over this time helping out at local sporting clubs and service organisations. I have been in Scouting 50 years and a local Scout Leader for the past 17 years at the Padbury Scout Group whilst also being the Chairman for the Whitfords Community Ratepayers and Recreation Association for the past 5 years who provide a cheap bus hire solution for local community groups.

Why I’m running for council: 
I have been very disappointed with the lack of community consultation in the direction taken in developing local parks in favour of large sporting groups at ratepayers expense. The plan for placing the City into debt to fund a Performing Arts Centre is very concerning and the timing is just not right. We need to be empowering ratepayers more and building a stronger community this has not been happening as we have been focusing only on Joondalup with the expectation that the ratepayers from the suburbs will pay for it. I would like to see new faces on the council with a fresh approach to serving the community.

My top three priorities if elected: 

  • Stop the push to redevelop local parks without proper community consultation
  • Stop placing trees on verges without residents approval
  • Resolve the storage problems for local community organisations

I’ve lived in Woodvale for 28 years and attended Woodvale Primary School, Lake Joondalup Baptist College, and then Curtin University where I attained my Bachelor Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. I am employed during the day as a professional and qualified local government town planner where I work with people of all backgrounds to build their homes and businesses. I have experience working at the senior executive level of government which has given me direct insight into how small businesses work with the council, how we should be designing our public spaces, and also the challenges facing our road network for example. I’ve also seen first-hand how investing in arts and cultural industries can act as a catalyst for small business growth and development of a broader economy. I also hold a Diploma of Music and in my spare time I pursue my passion in creative industries.

Why I’m running for council:
I’m running for Council to make sure we continue to listen to residents and make good decisions for the City’s future. It is important to have someone like me on Council who understands government processes who can communicate this back to ratepayers and work with the council to put forward residents views on local issues.  Also, I’m running to make sure the views of young people are put forward so we get a true perspective of what the emerging generations want from their local area. I want to make sure we deliver on the program of works to upgrade our local streets, parks, and community centres so our residents have quality places where they can build their sense of community. Passions include animal welfare, pushing for more financially responsible, accountable and transparent governance as well as hiking, camping, science education – particularly physics/astronomy and enjoying local restaurants.

I was raised by my hard working grandparents with a small business background, and have always sought to follow the compassion and hard work they showed to me, by working hard for all I have achieved in life and helping others. If elected, I will bring a rare understanding of the struggles of hard working families and often difficult circumstances faced by residents to local government.

Why I’m running for council:
I have been dismayed by the arrogance and smug elitism shown by some on council, from closing down the popular Whitfords Horse Beach, replacing verge collections with small blue bins which cannot fit most furniture items (unless you cut them up, rendering them useless for recycling), to attempts to take local parks from local residents and most recently, ripping up gardens and driveways to plant council-dictated trees without consultation. All while council has continued to increase rates, gone on lavish overseas junkets funded by ratepayers and exercising an arrogant indifference to resident’s concerns.

I am committed to reigning in wasteful spending, such as opposing the $100m performing arts centre which would run at a perpetual loss, and other vanity projects which won’t benefit residents. Reflecting tough economic times, I’m committed to a TWO YEAR RATES FREEZE and compensation for seniors who have had their rates concessions cut.

My top three priorities if elected: 

  • Two year freeze on rates and compensation for seniors who have lost rates concessions, funded from savings by cutting wasteful expenditure such as lavish holidays for councillors and the performing arts centre

About me:
I am a resident of Beldon of some 30 years. I drive buses for Swan Transit – a contractor for the public transit authority. I have been interested in local issues for years and now would like to attempt to reform local government to keep our rates under control. I believe the city has lost sight of financial reality with a proposal to build a $100 million arts centre with massive borrowing. We need to cut through the bull and get back to basics – nice parks for locals and junior sports, appropriate and affordable community facilities and quality roads and streetscapes.

Why I’m running for council:
The reason I am standing for office in the Central Ward this time is to try bring some common sense back to issues. We witnessed the city attempt to put large senior sports teams into residential parks which is totally unacceptable in my view. Also the possibility of the city spending $100 million on an arts centre. Why should Joondalup residents pay for a regional facility? Not on in my view. I also believe we need to hold our chief executive contractually responsible to reduce the cost of running the city. More innovation is needed, possibly to amalgamate back office functions with nearby cities to save costs. We need to think outside the box.

  • Meet with local community groups to talk over wish lists for 18/19 budget
  • Talk over my wish to reform the administration with fellow elected members and senior staff

I’m 37, have been married to my wife Amy for 15 years with 3 school age children. Lived in the City of Joondalup for 10 years; but have always been a Northern suburbs family. We have a rescue dog, Pepper. I like coffee – a lot. I drive a Valiant and have a passion for older cars. I’ve coached Auskick, Mods and indoor soccer. I play indoor beach volleyball and lawn bowls. I happily stand in the rain at the Arena netball courts to support my daughters. I’m a qualified Building Designer, and have been in the industry since 1999. I’m an invitee member of the HIA’s Planning, Environment and Development Committee. I lecture at REIWA on the State Planning Codes and Local Planning Schemes for 7 CPD points. My day job is sourcing land for planning and designing Retirement Villages. I’m also a practising Public Artist with a current commission.

Why I’m running for council:
I chose to run for the Central Ward knowing there is more to Local Government than rates, rubbish and roads. The Central Ward, from Yellagonga to Kallaroo, has all the core elements for a well connected, accessible and diverse community, to suit all demographics. The opportunities for the Central Ward are not limited to the boundaries though – between two train stations and freeway accesses, well located schools, easy beach access, Housing Opportunity Areas, Local Centres, two lakes and two Marinas, the community growth will come from looking beyond (and capitalising on) the connections between the Joondalup Industrial Area, Swan Valley, Beaches, Public Transport and the Marinas.
My vision is for a family friendly, well connected community; inclusive, accessible and diverse. I bring experience with Local Planning Schemes, Financial Feasibilities, Small Business and macro-level Strategic Planning to help realise this vision. The Central Ward deserves strong, clear and committed leadership.

About me:
I am married with three children and I live and work in Woodvale. I have over twenty years’ experience in local governments, from Drafting Assistant to Acting CEO. In 2003 I left local government to set up my own engineering consultancy specialising in road safety.
I believe that it is essential that Councillors are fully informed, and to achieve this I believe that they should have good technical knowledge of the many issues that are considered and debated in Council.

My technical knowledge of community issues are: Traffic and transport impacts of developments, Safe Routes to Schools, Traffic Management Schemes, Public Transport, Walking and Cycling, Waste Management, Recreational and Community Facilities. Joondalup is growing with several major projects planned. We need to ensure that these projects are assessed and debated with sound technical knowledge as well as considering the views of our local community.

Why I’m running for Council:
In my 20 years local government engineering and 14 years consultancy experience, I am often concerned about the lack of knowledge and experience of some local government Councillors when making important decisions that affect and impact on members of the community.

I find it totally unacceptable that some Councillors fail to take the time to attend briefing meetings or even attend Council meetings. Every item on the Agenda is important to someone and they are entitled to the respect of knowing that even if the outcome was not what they desired, that the issue was assessed and properly debated with all of the known facts. The City of Joondalup has a large number of significant transport and infrastructure projects about to commence. I believe the time has come for myself, as a traffic engineer and transport planner, to contribute my knowledge and expertise to the upcoming debates and decisions.

As a local resident for the past 15 years, I have spent much of my time around Joondalup. Whether it be in the local library reading or studying, enjoying my sisters Eisteddfod’s held in the City or participating in the local park run, I am an active member of the community. I started my own marquee business at the age of 21 and have a sound background in investment finance. I am a youth leader in my professional career and have been a member of the St Vincent De Paul Society and participate in many local and international community events. My character has largely been shaped by my Graduate and Postgraduate studies in Finance and Predictive Analytics, my travel experiences, the people within our community and most importantly my family. I am an advocate for environmental sustainability, community safety, development and growth.

I am running for Council as I believe my skills and experience can help shape and prepare the City of Joondalup for tomorrow’s future. es, and watched the City grow and change over this time. Over the last few years as Councillor and Deputy Mayor, I’ve been so proud of what we’ve achieved.

We’ve beautified our streetscapes, revitalised the City Centre, restored our bushlands & wetlands, enhanced our parks, playgrounds and community facilities and created new ones. We’ve secured $120m of State Government funding for the Ocean Reef Marina.   We’ve managed the City’s finances well and put Joondalup in a great position for the future. I have no political loyalties or conflicts of interest of any kind.

Why I’m running for Council:
I first ran for election because I care about the community that my family have grown up in, and I want to make it a better place for everyone in the future.  This belief has only been strengthened since I’ve been on Council – it’s  a privilege to be able to contribute to our community and I will continue to put my heart and soul into it.

But there is another reason.  Over the years I’ve seen too many people elected to Council on single issues, loudly proclaiming everything they will do, and then completely failing to get involved in anything once elected. I understand the hard work involved in being on Council; the unglamorous projects like waste recycling, the extensive reading and preparation, the necessity of collaboration.  The City needs experienced, hardworking Councillors like me who will continue to work hard for your interests long after election day.

Ratepayers’ needs will be my first concern as demonstrated by my recent 33 Hour Continuous Overnight Sit-Out on their behalf on the Marmion roadside.

I’ll fully disclose all my councillor entitlements, salary, gifts on a public website. I’ll make it possible for everyone to keep me informed online. I’ll regularly doorknock across my five suburbs to brief myself on local issues. I propose council receives significant ratepayer feedback per suburb before a hugely expensive project is added to our rates. I want more fair-minded politically-minded women as councillors; differing political affiliations, no problem at all –  I’ll activate steps to promote this once elected.

Why I’m running for council:
Our present council is authoritative – out of touch with the community. Parking fines imposed without the issues causing ‘illegal parking’ being addressed. The leafy Tree programme would have worked better, if the community was properly consulted, instead the programme was imposed and verges damaged, disability access reduced in some places; community protesters ridiculed… This constant undermining of the community has to stop.

I’ll keep developers accountable to their promises, in Iluka and elsewhere. The1992 promised underpass between Burns Beach and Kinross never transpired and today pedestrians are still dealing with a fast road unassisted. Mainroads is the present roadblock. An innovative plan from City of Joondalup Planners is being held up by them. My 2015 / 2165 signatured petition led to the Pedestrian Crossing concept being developed. I hope my 33 Hour Continuous Overnight Sit-Out will get this crossing in before the start of the new school year.

I hold a Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Accounting and a Master Degree in Business Administration. I am a Fellow of CPA Australia, professionally qualified member for 30 years. I have 37 years Finance Experience. Started in the Banking industry at Citibank where I gained valuable experience in Banking and Treasury operation.

I subsequently held the Executive Finance and Administration role of the former API/Statewest Credit Society before occupying the senior Manager of Finance position at the City of Perth in 1995 and taking the same role later at the City of Joondalup from 2005 until my retirement in 2015. During that time I gained extensive Local Government’ experience and helped the City avoid any investment loss during the 2007-08 Global Financial Crisis.

Why I am running for Council:
I was alarmed by the push to progress a $100 million Performing Art Project without significant State or Federal Government funding, with large new debt and growing operating loss annually during the entire life of the facility for the Ratepayers to carry and pay. I was also concerned about inadequacy of the financial information included in the project’s community consultation mail-out and the extremely low participation rate of affected Ratepayers, to an extent that undermined its outcome.

The subsequent public debate on this project was more disheartening, when those who opposed or expressed concern about the project’s excessive cost and adverse financial implications on the City and the Ratepayers were disrespectfully and publicly dismissed. It became evident that change is required and more members with strong financial knowledge and experience, free from political influence and self-serving agenda are much needed at Council to represent and protect the Ratepayer’s interests.

My Top Three Priorities

  • Stop the Mounting Debt and Operating Loss that the Ratepayers pay for
  • Support Prudent Financial Decision Making that strengthens the long term financial sustainability of the City without adding more burdens on the Ratepayers.
  • Advocate better Transparency and more Efficient Engagement with Ratepayers, local Businesses and Residents, putting their interest first.

Why I’m running for council:

I am running for council so that I can represent residents as well as personally having a say in the needs, services and facilities, development and growth of the Ward. I am concerned about constant rate increases, amount of community consultation and acceptance of residents wishes, planning and increased density issues, any environmental issues affecting our wonderful beaches and parks and Bush Forever sites.
I consider surfing, swimming and boating issues and facilities important to the community. We must have well maintained natural and created assets that look after the community’s sporting and recreational needs. Community Halls and parks as well as safe  roads and transport services along with well maintained shopping centres. I will require community consultation, responsible financial budgets, services and facilities for all age groups.
There is no place for crime, or unresponsible behaviour in our Ward and any problems will be given my attention when possible.

I have followed the actions and reactions of our Councillors for quite a while and believe it is time for some re-invigoration.  Closer review of overseas trips is required to ensure there is a tangible benefit for Council and the Community.  Hundreds of local businesses have disappeared over the past four years that has resulted in no local jobs growth.  I will support local businesses by working to minimise red-tape and any impediments to growth.

I volunteered on committees at Heathridge Playgroup, Poseidon Primary School and Ocean Reef Senior High School. I am now a member at Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club and Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club. I love watching live music and theatre performances. Thank you for trusting me to be your voice in the City of Joondalup for the last 8 years. I hope you will vote for me to continue improving our community. I’ve worked to get plans for the Ocean Reef Marina underway. I’m delighted it has now secured state government commitment. The Joondalup Council has become too comfortable. This year, every single retiring member expects you to re-elect them, while the outgoing Mayor wants to give us more of the same by anointing his successor. Millions of dollars were wasted just on the idea of the Performing Arts Centre, while your kerbside collections disappeared and rates went up and up. The Strategic Plan contains heavy rates increases for the next 20 years. Councillors have been going on overseas and interstate junkets, while at home rezonings have been happening without adequate consultation. According to the City of Joondalup’s own published figures, hundreds of local businesses have disappeared over the last four years and there has been no local jobs growth. It is time to put in Councillors with strong financial skills and real world experience, who will attract businesses and jobs to the area and always put the community first.

About me:
I am a UWA qualified marine biologist, journalist and successful business owner.  I have lived my whole life within the City Of Joondalup. At 43 years of age I now have the time and life experience to venture into politics in order to make a difference.  I have no set ideologies in regards to the left or the right of the political spectrum  – I believe that every issue should be decided on its merits with the foremost consideration being given to the rights and interests of ratepayers.  I have had enough of being walked over by self indulgent and agenda driven governments that see taxpayers as an endless trough to swill from.  I am sure that many share my views.

Why I’m running for council:
At some point in time you need to stop complaining about things you see as wrong and take action.  All levels of government have become self serving in my view.  There is no place in local government for politics and personal agendas.  The wishes and interests of ratepayers need to be respected. I believe that the City can be progressed in a way that is efficient and innovative and doesn’t involve constantly raising rates.  This is why I have chosen to become involved – in order to try and stop the rot.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • To put the interests and wishes of ratepayers first
  • To rein in spending and personal agendas within the city
  • To progress the city in an innovative but cost effective way

About me:
I am a long term coastal resident of the City, JP and active member of the local community. I work as a senior educational administrator and am a College Board member. My professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Education degree (Curtin) and Master of Educational Management (UWA).  have a proven record in setting high standards that support partnerships within communities.

My volunteer work has been of enormous satisfaction to myself and others and includes Friends of Sorrento Beach, Keep Australia Beautiful Council, St Marks’ P&F and junior sport. I listen to residents’ concerns, respond to suggestions and actively lobby Council to get things done! I am an INDEPENDENT candidate who is guided by common sense decision making. I have no political agenda, just a desire to serve the City’s ratepayers. I have a strong work ethic, am dedicated to problem solving and extensively research issues before making decisions.

Why I’m running for council:
The South West Ward needs a strong, active and visible councillor to ensure ratepayers get proper representation. I have a proven record of lobbying Council to secure improvements to our parks, roads, coastline and streetscapes. I have successfully petitioned for improvements to road safety, particularly Cook Avenue Hillarys and continue to lobby for the upgrade of Walter Padbury Boulevard and Hepburn Avenue intersection.

I will work to improve facilities for sporting clubs whilst supporting passive exercise opportunities such as walking and cycling paths. I will campaign to build Whitfords Nodes Staircase and support low rise coastal development. Community groups are the lifeblood of our society and I will work to support their causes. I am a lifelong volunteer and I will listen to residents’ concerns and actively participate in all aspects of City decision-making. I will work to ensure Council lives within its means to keep rates low!

My top three priorities if elected:

  • Consult ratepayers regarding the reinstatement of bulk rubbish verge collection and recycling
  • Upgrade Walter Padbury Boulevard/Hepburn Avenue intersection to make it safer
  • Build Whitfords Nodes Staircase whilst preserving the natural environment

I am an enthusiastic, driven young professional, who is committed to building a strong and vibrant community. As a long term local resident of more than 20 years and a current serving Councillor, I’m passionate about our local community and striving towards continual improvement within the South West Ward.
My fiancé Dr Ganesa Raja and I love our community and value more than ever how family friendly our community is. We are indeed privileged to live in a community where we feel safe, happy and many amenities to enjoy such as a beautiful parks and beaches. It has been an honour and privilege to serve as your Councillor and make a difference to the everyday lives of our residents. I have enjoyed working with residents and the schools, churches, community groups and sporting clubs, providing support to help them achieve their aspirations and build a sense of community spirit.
I am seeking re-election to continue the work council has been doing in our ward and believe that my experience leaves me best positioned to advocate for local residents. In my capacity as a South-West Ward Councillor, I have worked hard over the past eight years delivering on projects and infrastructure improvements to enhance, develop and beautify the South-West Ward.

I’m proud of the achievements made so far during my term serving our community as Councillor and committed to achieving even more in the future. I have been a Councillor that represents the best interest of our local community, listens to residents and assists all community service groups. I’ve demonstrated that I’m an effective local representative, demonstrating good governance and competent financial management. I voted against the Performing Arts Centre in the absence of State/Federal funding, I will not support imprudent capital expenditure and ensure rates are kept minimal.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • Amend the City Playground Shade Policy to relax the criteria to allow the installations of temporary artificial shade while surrounding trees grow and mature i.e Seacrest Park in Sorrento
  • Investigate the feasibility of Installing a Fully Fenced Dog Exercise Area within the South West Ward
  • Establish a Hillarys Residents Association, that will represent our beautiful suburb and advocated to the Council on issue that are important to the suburb.

About me:

I have held senior roles in Macquarie Bank, Bankwest and Perpetual Investments, and now run my own ASIC-licensed financial services company. I have the expertise to improve processes and ensure the Council performs to the high governance standards that ratepayers expect.

I have lived in the area since moving to Perth 17 years ago, and have strong ties to Hillarys, Padbury and Sorrento. Married to Kirsten for over 20 years, our three children have all gone to St Mark’s School. I have coached Auskick and visited many of the performing arts centres in the area watch various concerts.  I am a regular user of the cycle ways, parks and beaches. I would like to see more amenities for all residents and provide opportunities for families and businesses in the area.

Why I’m running for council:

I believe I can contribute to the efficient running of Council at a time when business and financial experience are needed. Residents have many differing needs but all would benefit from a more efficiently run council and with assurance that rates will not increase for two years. Currently the strategic plan for the Joondalup council has rate forecast to rise by 4.4% per year for the next 20 years. This is too high and well above the current inflation rate.

I have experience in identifying and eliminating wasteful expenditure. This is needed to keep rates under control. I am committed to a 2 YEAR RATES FREEZE, and compensation for seniors who have lost their rates concessions. My aim is to ensure Joondalup remains a desirable place to live and residents receive the services they expect. We also need to attract business investment to create employment opportunities for residents and families.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • Sensible coastal development
  • Resident input into rezoning and
  • Increased services outside of Joondalup CBD e.g. verge collection and support for businesses in each ward.
