Member of Political Party: No

About yourself:
I love Rockingham. It’s where I want to settle down, raise my children, watch them grow up and grow old sitting back on my rocking chair, still trying to make my wife laugh. Of course, with a cuppa and two biscuits, or three. It would be an absolute honor and privilege to serve and represent you on Council.

Why are you running for council:
I WILL NEVER VOTE TO INCREASE RATES. Type in Vote Cullum Ashton into Facebook to see photos and videos of the community and I, already solving community issues. We can improve our local economy by increasing the amount of tourists into Rockingham each year. We need to find a proactive approach to engage youth. We have a homeless epidemic in Rockingham and it’s about time someone on the council roles up their sleeves and fixes the problem, whatever it takes. The elderly have worked hard their whole life, paid taxes, rates and we can’t forget about them. My mates are hurting, we are in a recession, for some reason no one wants to admit it. The council needs to invest in infrastructure and support new projects getting off the ground in Rockingham.

Thanks for reading, please remember I WILL NEVER VOTE TO INCREASE RATES.

Your top three priorities if elected:

  • Transforming Safety Bay into a tourism hotspot,
  • Creating initiatives that engage and inspire young people, the homeless, the elderly and,
  • Creating & supporting projects to increase jobs for Rockingham residents.

About me:
36yrs old, married with 4 children. My eldest daughter attends Safety Bay High and my two other school aged children attend Safety Bay Primary. I worked as a Business development manager and 2IC for a Perth based manufacture for 15 years before recently resigning to go into full time study in Community Services. My passion has always been to help people, advocate for people and to give them the tools they required to achieve their own goals in life.I am a compassionate results driven cryptical thinker and I believe my white collar professional life mixed with my blue collar personality gives me a down to earth yet modern approach in representing the diversity within our community. I have been involved with event planning community events that have raised money for Rockingham based charities as I believe contributing positively towards your community is central to a happy well balanced life.

Why I am running for council:
Community has always been central to my life and raising my children in a safe friendly environment that offers a wide range of opportunities is extremely important to me. What’s critical to the future of Rockingham is that it’s managed by a council who helps shape the future in a positive way with its residents centre to decision making and not sell out our area for short term profits. Our amazing coastline, our parks, our services, our safety, our clean living and diversity must be central to policy making so our suburbs within Rockingham don’t become just another urban sprawl along a beach. We need to maintain our community spirit that offers our residents a standard of living that will be the envy of all those looking in. My role as councillor will ensure that we have a residents based voice helping guide the future of this great coastal paradise.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • * Community Services
  • * Best environmental practices
  • * Tourism

Are you a member of a political party: No

About myself:
When I graduated, Mark McGowan suggested I consider a political career. After 3 semesters of University, I found myself working for Council running youth programs. Junior council was one of my passions along with Gone fishing. I left council to become a parent and studied in between having two children.  I began employment  with Challenger Institute of Technology, lecturing and facilitating Young Parenting Programs. I also worked for Kwinana Council at the Zone youth space.  Since then I realised that to best create change, politics is the best forum.  I attended the national Oxfam straight talk summit in Canberra in 2014 and met with many politicians.

I attended ‘Your Community, Country and Council 2016’ run by Oxfam, Go Women Local Government, the Victorian Government Local Government Association. I met with politicians and received training. I wanted to gain as much experience as I could to run in our election. I enjoy fishing, family and friends.

Why are you running for Council:
I am running for council because when I was 14 I campaigned to get our own Multipurpose Youth Space. In 2001 the funding application was approved by lottery west and Council with millions of dollars set aside for a Youth Centre. Since then the Mayor and Councilors have side stepped the needs of our Youth with the Foreshore Precinct becoming a priority.  One space set aside for the Youth Centre has become an Art Gallery with Council saying that a Youth Centre will create anti social  behavior. I believe that by not having a Youth Centre we are encouraging antisocial behavior.

I am running for Council because I don’t want my children to miss out on something that was promised to me. Council needs a more diverse person representing the growing and changing needs of our town. I am running because my friends, peers and strangers tell me about what needs to change in our town. I listen, now I need to share and represent.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • Community consultation and representation
  • Advocating for a Youth Space.
  • Tourism.

Are you a member of a political party: YesAbout myself:
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and a background in Real Estate and Finance. I am currently studying law at Murdoch University which will be a benefit if I become a local Councillor. I am currently studying and working at the same time which gives me a great understanding of the pressures of the cost of living and needing to budget. I enjoy organising, being involved, serving and contributing in local community events, projects and political organisations as well as taking an interest in local festivals and playing sport when time permits. I believe in making a positive contribution to society through different community groups I enjoy being involved with. I also enjoy following AFL football, cricket and visiting nature reserve’s, tourist spots and going to the beach in the summer. Why am I running for council?
I want to see the Mangles Bay Marina with the investment in local infrastructure, the businesses and the employment opportunities it will create for local Rockingham residents become a reality in our time. The benefits will include new restaurants and cafés, entertainment facilities and family areas bringing in investment and tourists creating many flow on benefits for the area. Rockingham will become a must see location and tourist hub just like Hillarys Boat Harbour and Fremantle are now. It is just as important that the facilities and services offered to Senior’s are continued to be improved and expanded for lifestyle options and aged care facilities and services. I would also like to see the council continue to create other entertainment and recreational facilities for families and young people to increase the amount of facilities that families and youth have the opportunity to use without having to leave the local area. My top 3 priorities if elected:

  • The Mangles Bay Marina
  • Expansion of Seniors facilities and services in the area
  • New entertainment and recreational facilities for families and youth in the area

Are you a member of a political party: Local govt is Non-political and should stay that way

About yourself:
Rockingham is the place I’ve called ‘home’ for 38 years and I love It.  I am a mum to daughter Jenna and Matt (deceased) and step mum to Simone and Vanessa….my family is really important to me and they have grown up in our beautiful city. As a current elected member and Deputy Mayor, I understand council operations and our community needs and have used these to get real results, such as Litterbusters, Smartwatch, the upgrade of the Aqua Jetty, increased CCTV coverage and numerous strategies to preserve the amenity of our Safety Bay Ward. I have a genuine desire to support and give back to this community.

Why are you running for council?
We have achieved so much as a Council over the journey and there is still so much to do.

Your top three priorities if elected?

  • Addressing residents issues
  • Enhancing our reputation as a great place to live and visit
  • Valuing our unique coast and bush environment

Why are you running for council:
Being a councillor has provided me with the opportunity to positively influence the strategic direction for the community across a wide range of issues ranging from community development and  infrastructure to finance and government to strategic plans. The best part of being a councillor is being involved with the community at all levels and see projects that Council has brought forward come to completion. I remain committed to ensuring the community’s long term aspirations reflected in the City’s Strategic Plans are as important now as the day I became out Councillor.

Your top three priorities if elected:

  • ‘Masterplanning’ to improve Safety Bay Bent Street precinct – realise the untapped potential of this area – ALWAYS with community consultation.
  • Balance the needs of the community (financial pressures of the current economic climate) and the need for a managed and sustainable future.
  • I am vehemently opposed to the industrial degradation of Cockburn Sound, to excessive clearing of our unique bush land, and the location of heavy, noxious industry on our doorstep to the detriment of our lifestyle, health, businesses, and tourism potential.

Are you a member of any political party? No

About Me:
I am married with a grown family. When I moved to the City of Rockingham 8yrs ago I fell in love with the amazing Coast line, the beautiful parks. I believe this council needs new faces and fresh ideas. I want to use this opportunity to work for the community to recommend that the City of Rockingham contracts go to local businesses and jobs to the local residents. I want to work together as a team to ensure that the escalating crime rate is addressed sooner rather than later. Although I think the redevelopment of the Rockingham foreshore and further development of Baldivis is progressive, I feel the foundation areas within the Safety Bay, Warnbro, Waikiki, and Pt Kennedy are also important and in need of, Better roads and development.  I am also very passionate about keeping Point Peron as a coastal park for tourist and Generations to come and enjoy, Imagine a coastal Kings Park with things to do for the whole family to enjoy.

I want to take this opportunity to be available for the residents and to be their voice within council. I am contactable by phone, email, or on Facebook. To listen to your concerns in this area.

Why am I running for Council?
I am running for council because I believe it is time for a change, new faces, and new ideas. I strongly think that the residents want to be more informed about what is happening within council, and council to be more transparent. I want the founding areas of Rockingham to be recognized and developed as well.

My top 3 priorities if elected:

  • To work with authorities and residents to find ways to decrease the crime rate and make our community safer.
  • Get the roads repaired, improve and development of our founding areas.
  • Supporting local businesses so they can grow.

Are you a member of a political party: Have been a member of Liberal, Labor and The Greens but they are all dysfunctional so have resigned from all three.

About me: Born in Wanganuie New Zealand on 13.1. 1950 and moved to Perth in 1953 renting at 82 Bagot Road Subiaco.  Aged 4 walked up to Kings Park Road and waved Aussie flags at newly crowned Queen Elizabeth. Moved into newly built house at 8 Donegal Road, Floreat Park in 1954. Attended Floreat Park, Primary School, Hale School and Churchlands Senior High School. Commenced Piano Lessons age 9. From age 4 spent Crristmas holidays at Safety Bay and then the Brand New Waikiki Motel. Sand Hills and beach were pristine and were an amazing childhood adventure. One day was totally shocked to find sand dunes were bulldozed flat.

Completed a Commerce Degree in 1974 and later purchased 4OO acres in Gidgegannup and established a Pine Plantation and 500 tree Macadania Nut Tree Plantation. Married and had three beautiful children – son and two daughters. As an Accountant and Registered Taxation Agent had a major disagreement with The ATO culminating in Bankruptcy and loss of all assets. Later issued a writ against Michael d’Ascenzo Deputy Commissioner of Taxation for $25 billion dollars for brain damage and loss of professional reputation and assets.
Case became famous – Stuart’s cases no 1 and 2 – 1996 ATC having been bankrupted On a Nil Tax Advice. Income Tax Assesment Act was changed in 2004 because of Stuart’s Cases and GST introduced. Happily living in Warnbro for 5 years just 400 metres from one of the best beaches in the world .

Why are you running for council:
Well aware of how Council’s do not operate with any degree of financial efficiency. Last straw was when Mayor Barry Sammels dumped 100 truckloads of Stinking Grey Mud on Pristine White Waikiki Beach and then trucked it all away at a cost of millions of dollars. He should pay for this fiasco out of his $87,000 Salary. The position of Mayor should be elected by the people  and the Mayor should not get an extra vote when council ties at 5 all.  He only needs 4 councillors on his side to be a partial dictator.

Your top three priorities if elected:

  • Rates to be reduced every year by at least  1 per cent.
  • Mangles Bay Marina and Canals scrapped until Mangles Bay is fully flushed by removal of rocks from Garden Island Naval Base Causeway.  Currently Mangles Bay is a Human Toilet with over 1,000 kilos of human faeces being minced up and released without visual trace into Mangles every month. Cockburn Managenent Authority has Scientific Evidence that it takes 29 days to flush Mangles Bay.
  • Mayor to be elected by the people   And employed by them and can be sacked by them by a majority vote. Total financial efficientcy of any Local Authority subject to any being dismissed by Local or Federal Authority

Are you a member of a political party: No, but I did support current City Councillor Matt Whitfield, as an independent candidate at the last state election.

About yourself:
I’ve lived in Rockingham most of my life. I went to Cooloongup Primary School and Safety Bay High School. As a kid I played soccer for Rockingham City when they were still located on Dixon Road. I was a Scout and remember many nights at the Scout hall on Wanliss Street, near the beach. I went to karate lessons at Hillman Hall, played baseball at Anniversary Park and learnt to fish at Point Peron. After high school I went to Uni, started my own business and started a family (Not necessarily in that order). Now, as an adult I see the Rockingham I grew up with being forgotten and overlooked in favour of the newer suburbs. I believe Cooloongup, Hillman, Rockingham and Waikiki still have a lot to offer.

Why are you running for council:
The Rockingham I grew up with is being forgotten and overlooked in favour of the newer suburbs. Someone needs to put their hand up and remind our councillors that Rockingham is more than just Baldivis and Secret Harbour. Our part of this city, Cooloongup, Hillman, Rockingham and Waikiki is important too! Our facilities are not being looked after, funding is being funnelled towards the growth areas, whilst the established areas are forgotten. Woodbridge needs a second entrance, not only to ease traffic for residents, but to avoid cutting off access to the hospital in the event of an accident, yet most of the road upgrades happen in Baldivis. Too many of our local, family businesses are struggling whilst our council spends money with suppliers from elsewhere in the state. Too many commercial units along Dixon Road are empty whilst multinational competition sets up shop in the new areas.

Your top three priorities if elected:

  • Open another entrance into Woodbridge estate
  • Push council to hire locals and use local businesses
  • Make sure our rates are not wasted

Are you a member of a political party: No

About yourself:
I have lived in Waikiki for almost 10 years now with my husband and two sons aged 7 and 12 and work as the Sales Manager for a local Rockingham Business. I’ve spent the past few years involved in local community organisations such as Rockingham Special Families and Impounded Feline Rescue; more recently I have joined the committee for Neighbours Unite. I am originally from the Barossa Valley in South Australia and grew up there in a very close knit and active community so I know the benefits that a strong community can provide. We moved here in early 2008 to join my husband who has just celebrated his 15th year in the Royal Australian Navy and plan to remain here in Rockingham for many years to come.

Why are you running for council:
Over the past few years as my children grow I’ve seen so much growth in the area too, but couldn’t help but notice that much of this was focussed in areas where active councillors were driving this. I now want to be that active councillor and strive for community development in areas around Rockingham that seem to be left out. I feel that I can instil some real change and growth in many areas with fresh ideas and a more youthful point of view as well as the drive to take the voice of the community to council and advocate for all of us.

Your top three priorities if elected:

  • Community growth in Hillman, Cooloongup, Waikiki and Rockingham
  • Lower Rates by looking at change to council spending and costings
  • Better transparency from council to the community

About me:
I moved here 18 years ago as the Facilities Manager of Murdoch University and have been actively involved in the community ever since. I am a hard working Justice of the Peace, committed Rotarian and School board member, with an intimate knowledge of what is happening in our community. We urgently need better facilities for our residents, especially our young people and seniors, also local business and tourism need to be strongly supported and advocated for to provide local jobs.

Our fragile coastline and natural bush need preserving for future generations. My unique qualifications and experience have contributed professionally in this area in recent years on several Rockingham Council Committees. I was a proud Military Reservist for many years and am keen to liaise with and strongly support our Navy families, who add much value to our community. I love Rockingham and will represent residents strongly, equally and professionally.

Top 3 priorities if elected:

  • If the current Mayor is unsuccessful in re-election, I have the intention, experience and qualifications to stand as Mayor, or Deputy Mayor. I can commit substantial time to the needs of all residents and will always give an honest answer to all inquiries.
  • To assess the current recreation facilities in the Rockingham Ward and immediately commence lobbying for improved facilities for all residents, with special attention to our seniors and young people eg new or upgraded skate park/youth drop in centre, improvements to Hydro facilities at our pools. I have several fresh ideas that can lead to improvements in these areas.
  • I am already committed to improving tourism and business as a member of Palm Beach Rotary Club, we are currently working hard to stage the Beach Horse Racing, which brought 50,000 people to our City last year and is predicted to double that number this year. I know our local businesses appreciated being given priority for this event, as well as others we are planning.

About myself:
I grew up on a farm on the east side of Beverley in the W.A wheatbelt and in my early years worked for the company Co-operative Bulk Handling, which over time gained the necessary skills associated with my role of then site management, which included but was not limited to, managing staff, working within budget guidelines, public relations, resolution process and so on. I ended up marrying a young English lady from Rockingham to which we have 3 children, and 7 grandchildren, and because of this have been associated with the Rockingham area for many years. I now currently operate a small business throughout the suburbs of Rockingham.

Why am I running:
As a small business owner and operator, I interact with the community on a daily basis which has enabled me to experience firsthand the issues facing us residents of the City of Rockingham. If elected I am willing to work full time on the council, as I have something to offer, as I am willing to represent the views of the whole community (electors, ratepayers and residents) when deciding issues in council, rather than personal interests; as I am a strong advocate of open and accountable local government in giving residents a fair say! I also have all the skills that comes with being an effective councillor such as public speaking, participating in decision-making processes at meetings, analysing reports and financial information and so on.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • Protection and responsible management of our bushland and coastlines.
  • Community safety and crime reductions.
  • Keeping rate rises minimal, while giving support for local businesses and improvements to council services such as youth, disability and the aged.

About me:
I grew up in the Port Kennedy and Secret Harbour areas and attended Living Waters Lutheran College in Warnbro, graduating in 2015. I currently study Secondary Teaching, majoring in History, at Murdoch University and I am thoroughly enjoying it.  I work as a casual waitress, swim teacher and primary school tutor. I love spending my weekends at the beach, boating with my family and friends, and searching Perth for the best secret eateries! I thrive off busyness, and I find I am most productive when my schedule is full. I love meeting new people and attending local community events showcasing local small business and organisations.
I have a strong passion for leadership and representing the voices of people that deserve to have their feedback, concerns and initiatives heard.

Why I’m running for council:
The huge drive behind my council nomination was the observation that the current Council lacks diversity. I would like to bring this diversity in the form of youth, a Councillor with a fresh perspective that is truly in touch with students, youth workforce and young families.
I find the current communication between the Council and the community very distant. I have spoken to so many local residents who do not even know the names of their local council representatives, let alone how to get in contact with them. Many people do not know the responsibilities of the Council and what the City of Rockingham can actually do to help improve the community and help individuals. I want people to know who I am and feel very comfortable reaching out to me at any time, on any medium.
It’s time to make some waves within the Council and community!

My top three priorities if elected:

  • Providing clear, concise and efficient communication between the Council and the Rockingham Community
  • Creating a large-scale youth space, for students and designed by students, within the Comet Bay Ward
  • Revitalisation of forgotten public spaces that residents can be proud to use and spend time at

About yourself:
I am the mother of a family of young children and I am aware of the impact of council decisions on local families. I aim to represent the needs of working families of the area with fair inclusive policy changes. I believe I know what is important to the families of the local community and I am willing to listen to the idea and needs of this area.
I am an Associate Member of Australian Dyslexia Association (AMADA) who is an experienced Larning Difficulties educator.  Educated through the Australian Dyslexia Association and the Dyslexia Action (Education institution of the British Dyslexia Association). I also voluntarily administrator the WA and Perth Dyslexia Support Group and I am the WA representative for the National Light it Red for Dyslexia Campaign. A vote for me is a vote for the families of Rockingham. Help me Help you by supporting me with your vote.

Why are you running for council?
Rockingham City Council is a well-established Council, however, with recent decisions it has been made evident that Council members are not as aware of the social and economic impact for local families that they should be.

As a local resident, in my opinion decisions should require input from all areas of the community and it seems that based on the average age and gender of the Rockingham Council, there is a need for a person under 40, who is currently a working parent of children under 18 years.  Local facilities, in older suburbs are lacking updates, with large amounts of money invested in newer communities, disadvantaging those families with children who live in the older suburbs, it is important that all areas in the City of Rockingham receive equitable funding for facilities to ensure our older suburbs continue to house young families thus ensuring the diversity in our community flourishes.

Your top three priorities if elected?

  • Work towards improving under 18 facilities in older suburbs and completing works in newer suburbs
  • Engage families in key Council decisions that will directly impact their daily lives.
  • In collaboration with local families and Council, work towards providing excellent council facilities for all.

About myself:
For over 20 years my family and I have enjoyed being deeply connected with the Rockingham community and we have lived in Port Kennedy for the past 11 years. Raising 4 children in this beautiful place, I have a strong desire to protect and improve the elements that make Rockingham so great. I have been actively involved with Scouts, Girl Guides, Surf Life Saving, tennis, tee ball, netball and basketball. I have also enjoyed working as a Town Planner for over 15 years in Local and State Government.
Currently, I am the President of the Alfred Hines Camp near Point Peron and the Executive Minister at Warnbro Community Church. My role has included organising the Warnbro Car Show for the past 5 years. Many thanks to the City of Rockingham that have helped fund this event. I enjoy the outdoors, walking along our beautiful beaches, sea kayaking and bike riding.

Why am I running for Council:
I’m well qualified and experienced in working and meeting the needs of the community.  The Council has been doing a good job improving infrastructure and engaging the community, however it can be done better.  I have been frustrated and perplexed by some of the recent council decisions, including large rate rises and spending over $9 million to buy land for sport ovals in Baldivis. I am certainly in support of sporting ovals, however usually the State Government or developers provide land for this.

In my opinion, Rockingham has lagged behind Mandurah in terms of tourism and sustainable development. There has been a lack of activity in several projects in Port Kennedy. I know that our youth need more than just skate parks.  It was sad to see the destruction of the environment and the community upset by the bulldozing of the sand dunes in Golden Bay.

My top three priorities if elected.
Seek to save costs by establishing more partnerships with the State Government, local community groups and businesses for the delivery of infrastructure, services and programs for residents. Long term and robust planning to provide the best for you today and into the future for generations to come. Promote tourism, education and economic development in the area. We need education and jobs to look after the environment and to care for those less fortunate around us.

Are you a member of a political party: No. I believe our local governments should not be constrained in their thoughts and actions by established political parties.

About me:
I am a Western Australian by birth and have lived here most of my life. I have lived in the Rockingham area since 1981 and in Warnbro with my partner Angela and her son Morgan since 2007. I am currently finishing up a contract on Manus Island in the federal government’s refugee processing centre and have worked in this industry for a number of years. I have a degree in Asian Studies (Indonesian) and a degree in Australian Migration Law and Practice. Lived and worked in China, Korea and Canada. Same sex marriage but not the postal vote. At a federal level the government should be making this decision. $122 million wasted dollars. Both sides of argument behaving badly. Strong border policy and immigration controls. Immigration and multiculturalism must be re-examined and managed to create the nation the majority desire. Harsher criminal penalties. More prisons. Safer streets.

Why are you running for council?
I’ve spent many years living in the Rockingham area and they have on the whole been my best years. I still have close friends from Cooloongup Primary School and Safety Bay High School. Many of the people I care about the most, including my family, live in this city. Secret Harbour holds a special place in my heart. During my youth I spent many weekends and holidays surfing Surf Beach with my mates. It is still a beautiful place and I would like to see it remain that way. I would like to see an increase in programs concerning law and order in Rockingham including more community involvement in fighting general crime, ice dealers and hoons. I would also like to further promote the City of Rockingham as a holiday and entertainment centre in order to provide business opportunities and employment opportunities to our youth.

Your top three priorities if elected:

  • Make Rockingham Safe – Expand the Smart Watch Service and the Neighbours Unite programs to increase community safety.
  • Make Rockingham Beautiful – Continue to create an entertainment and high population density zone in the Rockingham Beach area. Carefully manage development, subdivisions and infills in other parts of the City of Rockingham.
  • Make Rockingham Prosperous – Encourage tourism and small business development in the City of Rockingham. Create jobs for our youth.

– Past President of Secret Harbour Primary School P&C

– Current Deputy Chairman Secret Harbour Dockers Sporting Association

– Member Singleton Residents Association

– Secret Harbour Residents Association

– Kennedy Bay Community Association

Why are you running for council?
It has been my privilege to represent Comet Bay since 2013. It has been a very productive time with many of the needs of the community being met. With Council and Chris Elliott’s support we have built: Secret Harbour Surf Club, Docker’s Sporting Clubhouse for football and cricket; the Laurie Stanford facility in Singleton for bowls, cricket, soccer, tennis, Resident’s Association, playgroup and social club. More big projects include Kennedy Bay Development, Secret Harbour All Abilities playground, Singleton and Port Kennedy skate parks renewed and Secret Harbour Primary School Kiss and Drive Improvements. However, this job is not just about big projects, it’s about looking after local issues: saving sand dunes; drainage; tree pruning; parking, especially around schools; roads; parks and sporting facilities. With your support I will continue working on issues that are important to you.

Your top three priorities if elected?

  • Kennedy Bay Development
  • All Abilities Playground Secret Harbour
  • Saving our Sand Dunes

Are you a member of a political party: No

About myself:
I am a wife, mum and business woman and since 2009 have called Baldivis home. With two young boys and a husband in the Navy, I know the challenges facing families, especially Defence and FIFO families, and I think it is time that our voices were heard. I have a community development background and volunteer with; sports clubs, Baldivis Home Business Network, Youth on Fire, Mother Teresa Catholic College P&F and the City Safe and Global Friendship Committee’s for the City of Rockingham. These experiences have helped me understand this community.

I have 20 years’ experience mediating and in 2016 was awarded ADC Young Mediator of the Year. With both qualifications and practical experience, I am passionate about helping bring people together to make good decisions. I know what it takes to create safe communities, and I want to help Baldivis achieve this.

Why are you running for council?
I bring a new perspective and professional skills for leadership for our community. I will work collaboratively and respectfully to bring our council and community together for our benefit. As someone that is impartial, I am not interested in party politics; I just want positive results for all of us. As a mediator I want to help our council work together for the common good rather than be divided by opposing positions and personality clashes. A bright future is possible if we are collaborative not competitive, if we celebrate difference of opinions and create safe spaces for people to come together. With experience working at federal, state and local government, not for profit and  running my own business, I know how to work collaboratively and respectfully to bring our council and community together for real outcomes.

Vote for safe communities, Defence and FIFO families and small business – vote Sarah Blake.

My top three priorities if elected:

  • I’d like people to feel safe – safe from crime, safe from harm, safe to enjoy our natural environment and safe to have different opinions, to be heard and valued.
  • I’d like to see business, jobs and employment thrive. A strong economy means a strong future, so support local!
  • I’d like Defence & FIFO families to be heard and valued in service provision and planning. I’d like to see our City’s relationship with Defence and defence industry to be informed by real experience, expertise and compassion.

Are you a member of any political party? No.

About myself:
Husband, primary carer to our two boys, soccer, afl and athletics coach and one of the current councillors for the Baldivis Ward. Being a Councillor is a full time role for me and I enjoy working on new policies, strategies and official council business but my real passion is working with residents and community groups where I am proud to have really made a difference as part of a team. Ann and I have lived in various estates in Baldivis and I have previously worked as a Police Officer, Banking Manager and had my own business. I love putting on free outdoor movies and other events with my Baldivis events volunteer colleagues and am proud of the role I have played in delivering upgrades to the Baldivis fire brigade, security upgrades, vital sporting and community facilities, youth plazas, mobile towers and more internet ports. Good luck to all the candidates.

Why I am running for Council:
I have been a Councillor for 4 years and whilst I am proud to have focussed the Cities and States attention on our suburb there is a lot more I would like to complete. Baldivis is growing too fast and this puts a massive strain on infrastructure, facilities and services and this ultimately leads to higher rates. I want to push a forward thinking agenda where we will get different revenue streams rather than constantly raising rates (I have successfully argued for two years in a row for lower than expected rates) whilst also advocating for a pause in new outlying residential development to allow things to settle down. I want to complete the Small Business support centre, want to continue being that vocal voice that challenges ridiculous decisions, deliver the needed community facilities and push for a leisure pool here in Baldivis. This is my passion, not my job

My top three priorities if elected:

  • 1. Expand on my current Business Support Model.
  • 2. Push for a pause in new land development
  • 3. More activities and facilities and support for our youth and elderly
