A SIGNIFICANT Coolup reserve has been named the Enzo Menara Reserve in honour of the late Enzo Leomonto Menara and the love he had for his community.

Residents from across the Shire district joined his close friends and family, Coolup Progress Association members and Shire of Murray councillors and staff at the Recreation Reserve in Murray Street, Coolup for the official unveiling.

Shire president David Bolt said when naming the reserve came up at the September council meeting, the decision to support the suggestion put forward by Coolup Progress Association was one of the easiest decisions the council had made.

“The item received a unanimous vote in favour of the name,’’ he said.

Mr Menara was a farmer, father, owner of the butcher’s shop in Pinjarra, now Pinjarra Meat Supply, and a long serving member of several community groups.

He served on the council for 27 years and was an effective liaison between the community and the council, always striving to achieve the best outcome for the district.

Cr Bolt said Mr Menara selflessly served his community not as a duty but because it was intrinsic to his giving, selfless persona.

“If there was ever evidence of how one person can unite a community, Enzo was it and it is now befitting to name this key community facility after such an example,’’ he said.

Coolup Progress Association president Ange Rogers said Mr Menara’s generous nature knew no bounds and the community was better off for having him as part of the town.

“We know that by naming this reserve in his honour, his legacy and contribution, not only to Coolup but the Shire of Murray and beyond will never be forgotten,’’ she said.
