The position was also contested by Cr Brenda Beacham.

Cr Bolt (56) has a 50-year connection with South Yunderup where he lives and said he had seen Pinjarra grow from a few farms to a vibrant town.

He said he would look for a balance between community expectations and the environment

There would be a challenge to the council regarding unemployment, and with the need to introduce new technology, he would make sure the younger community was not left behind.

He also planned to look after the aged.

“If we look after business and ratepayers, we will all grow together,’’ he said.

Unlike the City of Mandurah in which residents vote for the mayor, Murray Shire councillors vote for their president.

Cr Reid and new councillors Geoff Black, Brad Cardilini, Douglas McLarty and Brenda Beacham were sworn in at today’s council meeting.
