Dwellingup Teenz: new youth space in the hills sees teens flock to enjoy entertainment

Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

DWELLINGUP Teenz, a youth space for 11 to 17-year-olds, opened last month when teenagers flocked to Dwellingup Community Hall to enjoy entertainment, including the PulseWA circus workshop made possible by Mandurah Performing Arts Centre’s Lesley Couzens Fellowship Grant.

The youth space, co-ordinated and run by Colleen War, will operate from the hall on the first Friday of the month.

Ms Warr also runs youth activities on Monday and Tuesday evenings throughout Dwellingup to encourage young people to engage in outdoor activities.

The youth initiatives are supported by the Shire of Murray and Dwellingup Community Compact and have been further helped by donations from Murray businesses, including the Dwellingup General Store, Caraholly Orchard and Jarra Infusion.

Ms Warr said Dwellingup Teenz offered local youth a safe venue to get out, hang out, make dinner together, play video and board games, enjoy a game of pool or several interactive sports activities, thanks to the Shire of Murray’s Youth Kit, and addressed the town’s need for a productive outlet for the 11-17 age group.

The council’s youth kit includes portable soccer goals, basketball hoops, game consoles, computer and board games.
