FUNDING applications are invited for projects that will bolster the vibrancy, inclusivity and health of the Dwellingup community.

The newly established Alcoa Dwellingup Community Grant Scheme, an initiative between Alcoa and the Shire of Murray, aims to assist community-based organisations with the provision of events, programs and workshops.

Shire president David Bolt said community organisations performed a fundamental role in shaping their locality and it was vital funding was available to ensure those organisations built and strengthened their capacity in order to offer sustainable service delivery.

“Benefits derived from an event, program or workshop last well beyond the activity as those involved draw on their connections and collective knowledge to refine community building initiatives,” he said.

“Dwellingup Log Chop and Dwellingup Pumpkin Festival are two examples of successful funding recipients of the scheme.

“These events have been instrumental in fostering community pride and confidence, both critical factors in supporting the town’s ongoing development and future prosperity.”

Alcoa Huntley Mine manager Affonso Bizon said the company was keen to support ideas and opportunities that were important to the community.

“We have been contributing economically and socially to the Peel region and WA for more than 50 years,’’ he said.

There is no closing date and applications will be assessed primarily against the project’s ability to provide benefit to the Dwellingup community.
