WORK has started on a project to transform Dwellingup into a tourism town of national significance.
The Dwellingup National Trails Centre project has been in the development stage for the past 12 months with significant planning and consultation undertaken.
Site preparation has started for the first component, the relocation of the rail triangle and implementation of a new train turntable through a partnership between the Shire of Murray, Dwelling Community Compact and Hotham Valley Railway.
The works are expected to conclude mid-year, which will then allow for the extension and transformation of Dwellingup History and Visitor Information Centre into a Trails Centre with extra toilets and hot showers, a supplementary skate park, pump park, adventure playground, entertainment stage, additional barbecue and picnic facilities and significant upgrades to parking, pathways and signage.
Realignment of the Munda Bidda Trail and Bibbulmun track through town to meet at the Trails Centre is also planned.
Murray Shire President David Bolt said the project was an example of how groups working together could realise great outcomes.
Dwellingup Community Compact and the Shire of Murray are inviting comment on the trails centre and Green Precinct Project.
Cr Bolt said the draft key element concepts were close to a final Master Plan after a long process of community and stakeholders consultation but further comment was sought to ensure the project was fully aligned with community expectations.
The documents can be viewed at www.dwellingupwa.com.au.
Comments should be sent to The Secretary, Dwellingup Community Compact, C/-PO Box, Dwellingup 6213 or emailed to email@example.com.
The comment period closes on January 18.
