Australia Day 2017: City of South Perth morning ceremony

AUSTRALIA Day celebrations begin early with the City of South Perth’s Morning Ceremony at Sir James Mitchell Park, Coode Street.

The day commences with the Flag Raising Ceremony which includes the delivery of the Australian flag, a blessing, the formal unfurling and then the rising of the flag by the Australian Defence Forces.

The Citizenship Ceremony then commences after 8am where guests are welcomed with a traditional Welcome to Country before being inducted as new Australian citizens.

Members of the public are also invited to join in and reaffirm their citizenship pledge together with the City’s newest Australians.

The proceedings also include a presentation of the Australia Day WA Citizen of the Year Awards, acknowledging those individuals and organisations that make a notable contribution during the year, and/or those who have given outstanding service over a number of years.

The Ted Maslen Award is also presented to the student resident who achieves the highest score of all year 12 students within the City of South Perth.
