Perth plants a picture of attraction at Victoria Park exhibition

ARTIST Judy Rogers was fascinated by Perth’s plants when she moved to the city from Hungary with her British partner.

The Alexander Height resident’s love of flora will be on display in her exhibition Romancing Botany at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts from April 13 to 26.

Rogers was selected as the featured master artist for this year’s Victoria Park Arts Season, which will be held next month.

The work on display includes cross-hatched drawings which look like photo-realistic paintings.

Rogers said she had been interested in botanical prints for some time and she enjoyed the level of detail that artists could put into them.

“The Australian landscaping can be overwhelming; even in suburbia there is still lots of space and it was fascinating to explore and see the complex plants,” she said.

“Hungary’s plants change with the season but there are some European plants that have been brought over to Australia.

“I never had a garden when I was living in Budapest, just the plants I had inside.”

Victoria Park Centre for the Arts general manager and artistic director Clare Szmekura said she was happy that the opportunity to have Rogers’ work on display had come about.
