South Perth artist Peter Kendall to open home studio

HE has painted Peter Brock and Danny Green for the Archibald Prize and now South Perth artist Peter Kendall will open up his home studio as part of an event to bring art and native plants together.

While Kendall’s latest exhibition is on display, WA native garden plant specialist Boxed Green will talk about the new garden it is creating at his house on October 7 and 8.

Kendall said he had gained inspiration from Boxed Green and the gardeners felt the same way about him.

“I’m happy to open my garden for the public to enjoy (and) I’ll be talking about my art during the two days,” he said.

“The artwork that will be on display will be related to the bush, whether it’s the different places that I’ve been or where other people have been and I’ve seen photos of.”

Boxed Green co-founder Graeme Mitchell said the concept for the garden started after seeing Kendall’s large gum tree in his backyard.

“We were doing work at another house around the corner when we spotted it,” he said.

“We talked with Peter and worked out what we’re doing. We don’t use any products like mulch or fertilisers.

“We are probably still one year away from finishing the garden.

“During the event, we will be holding some workshops and talking about what we do.”

Registration for the event can be made on Eventbrite or by visiting www.boxedgreen.com.au.

The location will be provided at registration.
