But the City of Belmont and Main Roads WA have different views on who should take responsibility.

Ms Abbott has lived near the domestic terminal for the past six months after moving up from Bunbury last year.

She is disappointed about the lack of maintenance at the intersection of Tonkin and Great Eastern highways and Brearley Avenue.

‘The constant rubbish from drivers throwing fast food wrappers, plastic and glass bottles, and general rubbish is disgusting and is not being cleaned up,’ Ms Abbott said.

‘Also the window washers who greet our interstate travellers with swearing, dirty river water and who knows what else, leave cans and cigarette butts on the side of the road for all to see.’

The Curtin University student commended the Perth Airport’s recent developments and the Barnett government’s improvements of the Great Eastern Highway, but said what tourists saw before reaching the highway needed improvement.

A spokeswoman for the City of Belmont said the maintenance of the Tonkin and Great Eastern highways interchange was the responsibility of Main Roads WA.

However a Main Roads spokeswoman said Belmont was responsible for Brearley Avenue verge maintenance.
