The City of Belmont is hosting a free family fun day at the riverside Ascot park on Sunday, August 6, with entertainment, children’s activities and live race commentary.

There will also be helicopter rides for spectators to get a bird’s eye view of the race.

City of Belmont Mayor Phil Marks encouraged residents to visit the community get-together event and celebrate the white-water race.

“This year we also have the exciting addition of a big screen which will broadcast live action as competitors approach Garvey Park, as well as showing highlights from Day 1 and 2,” Mr Marks said.

Locals can also explore library, museum and neighbourhood watch information stalls, and take a seat out of the elements in the undercover marquee.

Activities for kids to enjoy include an indoor playground, face painting, animal encounters and a junior sports expo, where children can have a go at tee-ball, baseball and cricket.

City of Belmont residents are invited to bring their opportunity cards for free offers, including food and beverages.

The family fun day kicks off at 11.30am and runs until 3.30pm.
