BE wins bid to build |new centre

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

Belmont council unanimously voted in favour of BE Projects’ tender after identifying it as the ‘best value for money’ out of the 17 tenders presented, even though it was not the highest scorer on the evaluation matrix.

The centre will be located at the intersection of Harman and Sydenham streets in Belmont and used primarily as an adult day-care facility during the day and a community group meeting place in the evening.

Home and Community Care WA and Lotterywest provided about half the funds for the $880,000 centre.

A spokeswoman for the City of Belmont said the centre would have three toilets, ample storage and a kitchen with a commercial fit-out, and construction was expected to be completed by April 2014.

BE Projects’ past projects include the relocation of Redcliffe Primary School’s toilets, the Causeway Bus Transfer Station and the construction of residential housing on George Street in Victoria Park.
