The former Aquinas College student took up the role recently after the resignation of Jane Marwick and said he had big shoes to fill.

‘Even though it scared the hell out of me, I said yes,’ Bell told the Southern Gazette.

While admitting to still being in the ‘honeymoon period’ of his new job, Bell said he was heartened by the positive response from callers so far.

‘There are some things clearly I am more informed about than others,’ he said.

‘I’m lucky on the afternoon segment that we’re able to cross a broad spectrum of ideas. It can be lighthearted at times, which really appeals to me, but if there’s a breaking news story or an important political story, I have to understand that and I have to be able to flesh out major issues, and also engage our listeners.

‘I’m hoping to introduce a real conversational style ” I’m not scared to ask other |people’s opinions.’

Bell said while he would get a buzz out of meeting some celebrities on the show, what really inspired him was hearing the stories of young people who were achieving great things in the community and the work of philanthropists.
