Belmont Districts Football Club asks community to dig deep for family

Mr Curley (31) died following complications from type one diabetes in 2010. His passing is commemorated annually by the club.

This year the club will also be paying tribute to Mr Crawford (45) who died in May, leaving behind his wife Tarryn and four-year-old daughter Makaydee.

Mr Crawford was a life member of the club and had fought a three-and-a-half year battle with brain cancer.

Now his father, club stalwart Allan ‘Flash’ Crawford, also has terminal brain cancer and is starting to show a rapid decline in everyday activities.

The club is asking the Belmont community to dig deep and help support the Crawford family and raise awareness about brain cancer and diabetes.

Event organiser Leigh Searle said it was organising several fundraising initiatives including a raffle and an auction.

“We want to support the family with Allan also suffering from brain cancer,” Mr Searle said.

“We will also be giving donations to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation and Diabetes WA but the welfare of the family is our main concern.

“After what they’ve endured we want to make sure that we give them a holiday and try and help them to live a normal life as much as possible.

“We want to make sure they are secure financially and also as a community to support them.”

“We as a football club have lost two amazing people and feel very strongly about supporting both causes,” he said.

“Both were great mates, so it seems fitting to honour these two fine men together.”

The raffle will be launched at the club’s past players day and 20-year reunion on July 9.
