THE Belmont Men’s Shed is gearing up for its community market day.

One and all are invited to head to the shed on Saturday, September 9, between 9am and noon to explore their handmade wooden toys, household products, over 50 bikes of all sizes, and a range of other items.

Men’s Shed chairman Brian Carey said as well as sharing the items made at the shed, the market day would let the community learn more about what goes on there.

“It’s telling the story of the shed and the sort of things we’re doing,” Mr Carey said.

“We’re doing lots of little jobs, repairs for the Toy Library, helping out older people with things they need repairing and a lot of metalwork as well as woodwork.”

The Belmont Men’s Shed blokes have a strong bond with their local Bunnings as well as the wider community, cooking food for 400 people at last week’s DIY session for Father’s Day.

Mr Carey said the impact of Men’s Sheds on male mental health was immense, particularly for those who may have just retired.

“We held two community consultations and found the most important thing was to have a place for people to gather,” he said.

“There’s been an increase in enthusiasm and healthiness by men participating.”

To get involved, drop in to the community market day this weekend, or visit between 9am and 1pm, Monday to Friday.

The Belmont Men’s Shed is located at 57 Robinson Avenue, Belmont.
