Belmont Police Station to open longer on weekdays

Jessica WarrinerSouthern Gazette

The extended opening hours began on Monday, May 8.

Belmont MLA Cassie Rowe, who previously campaigned for a 24-hour police station as the Belmont Community Group president, said the longer hours delivered on an election promise to the community and are a step in the right direction.

“I will always be fighting for more resources to tackle crime in our area,” she said. “Every door I knocked on across the electorate, people nine times out of 10 would say they don’t feel safe in their own home, so I was acutely aware of this issue in our own area.”

Police Minister Michelle Roberts said the extended hours would ensure the community had greater access to police services in-person.

“We understand that for some people it is difficult to visit a police station between 8am and 4pm,” Ms Roberts said.
