HE OWNS and runs his own business, but Waterford resident Bernard Chia still finds time to give back to his community.

Mr Chia (35) volunteers his time to work with young aboriginal teenagers who are a part of the Ausum Entrepreneurs program, supporting young people create their own small business.

As the founder of web design and digital marketing agency Alyka, Mr Chia said he believed it was important to give back to the community.

“My work with Ausum is incredibly rewarding,” he said.

“I’m passionate about entrepreneurship and helping to equip young people who have had disadvantage in their lives to think innovatively about the possibilities of starting their own business to be their own boss.”

Ausum Initiatives chief executive Liz Prescott said the organisation highly valued its dedicated volunteers like Mr Chia.

“We have a small but incredibly talented group of highly committed volunteers who are a huge support to our team at Ausum, and particularly the young people who we work with,” she said.
