Better Health available for overweight kids in Belmont

A NEW free program has launched in City of Belmont to help overweight children become fitter and healthier.

The Better Health Program is a free lifestyle course for primary school-aged children who are above a healthy weight.

Families can take part in the two-hour sessions twice a week for ten weeks at Jump About Trampoline Park in Rivervale.

The program aims to support families improve fitness, physical activity levels, nutrition and self-esteem.

Better Health Program WA project manager Hayley Robertson said the Rivervale venue was already proving to be a hit with children.

“We are seeing positive effects of the program and we know it can really change lives,” she said.

“The program is fun and family focused and encourages everyone to give new things a go, parents can show how supportive they can be in involving the whole family in making healthier choices.

“Children can become healthier and fitter while their self-esteem and confidence also increases.”

The program uses practical interactive learning to teach children and parents weight management skills including how to prepare healthy meals, how to read food packaging and healthy shopping on a budget.

The interactive program will continue to be available at Jump About Trampoline Park in Rivervale throughout 2016.

Program places are being offered to families on a first come first serve basis.
