Building on belief

At tonight’s council meeting, City of South Perth councillors will determine whether to endorse rezoning some of the organisation’s land from ‘public assembly’ to ‘private institution’ with an R40 coding. The amendment would allow a building height of up to 14 metres on part of the site.

Dr Howe said the group wanted to eventually build affordable housing for seniors and a community centre.

‘We want to eventually create an environment for a community, where people can live, shop and be part of the community,’ she said.

It would hopefully include low-cost housing, a low-cost food shop and an op-shop.

The site is located along the eastern and western sides of Bickley Crescent, between Pether and Manning roads.

Council staff have proposed that councillors recommend to the Minister for Planning that the amendment be approved with modifications, which have been outlined.
