City of Belmont make agreement for community garden at Wilson Park

Jaime ShurmerSouthern Gazette

AN agreement has been struck with the City of Belmont to earmark a part of Wilson Park in Rivervale for a community garden.

Belmont Community Growers member Sandra Maynard said the aim was to incorporate it into the master plan being developed for the area.

“While initially envisaged as a pop-up garden, the group hopes that it will become a permanent feature for the community,” Ms Maynard said.

Following on from the initial work of founders Mike Alteruthmeyer, Felicity Hatzis and others, retired horticulturalist Ms Maynard recently stepped in to help.

A community meeting about the proposed garden will be held at the Rivervale Community Centre on Francisco Street on Sunday, November 20 from 3pm to 5pm.

The aim is for the group to become an incorporated body and be eligible for major funding grants.

All are welcome to attend. Email Ms Maynard at horitalk@bigpond.com to join the group.
