FOR the first time in WA, two local governments have worked together to deliver a joint bicycle plan.

The plan from the City of South Perth and Town of Victoria Park aims to address the needs of cyclists and further develop existing cycling infrastructure.

South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty said creating a functional network through transport planning and engineering was a priority to benefit not only the people living in the both council areas but the whole cycling community.

The key to the success of the joint bike plan will be the input received from community members according to Victoria Park Mayor Trevor Vaughan.

Public consultation on the draft bike plan is open until March 12.
