JELLYBEANS Childcare Centre in Como will now open thirty minutes earlier to accommodate growing community needs.

The City of South Perth granted approval for the extended opening hours, from 6.30am to 6pm, at its February council meeting despite officer’s recommendations to refuse.

Officer’s reasons for recommending refusal surrounded the issues of unacceptable noise and potential negative amenity impacts.

However, after looking into prior noise complaints issued against the centre, councillor Tracie McDougall proposed an alternative motion allowing the earlier opening on the proviso that waste collection not be collected before 7am.

Cr McDougall said she recognised the issues with regards to noise were specific to waste collection and felt the conditional approval a suitable compromise to accommodate both the service demand and the surrounding residents.

Jellybeans centre manager Jenna-Lee welcomed the approval as the centre had several parents who were shift workers who required earlier care.

“We are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for parents and children,” she said.

“We currently have several families who are shift workers and could see an earlier opening would be of great benefit to them.”
