City of South Perth resolves strategy for long-term parking management

A NEW strategy to provide a long-term parking management plan has been passed by City of South Perth council.

The City commissioned Luxmore Parking and Safety Consultants to develop the strategy that will offer a framework for the next 15 years and help it reach travel demand goals.

“Road safety around on-street parking was the overriding concern for the South Perth community, it was identified primarily in residential areas, around schools, Curtin University and along main arterial roads,” Mayor Sue Doherty said.

“The strategy is clear in that the City needs to prioritise access for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users and people with disabilities.

“Another priority is to make the most of the public transport infrastructure, balanced with the needs of the City road network, which includes working towards minimising congestion.”

The strategy outlines 22 recommendations for review and implementation and will create an action plan to help management for parking control in areas such as the South Perth Station Precinct.

Local businesses and residents were consulted during the development of the strategy.
