The club has about 20 members who have a close bond. Many firm friendships have formed over the years but with a new year just beginning, Mrs Jackson ” who is club secretary ” and president George Morris are appealing for new members.
Mrs Jackson, who moved to Lesmurdie a decade ago, still travels to the club meetings in Carlisle, where she lived for 35 years.
She said members came from all over Perth for the meetings. Their ages ranged from young to senior citizens but they had two things in common ” stamps and friendship.
Mrs Jackson said stamps had become more expensive and people had started collecting along thematic lines.
She said while she did send emails she continued to send regular letters to her 25 pen pals all over the world and they to her, as they loved to receive letters festooned with stamps.
