A Collier Primary School team that included Year 6 students Finn Anderson, Istvan Savanyo, Jiaming Yao and Lachlan Maclellan beat out students from St Columba’s Catholic Primary, Wattle Grove Primary School, Kensington Primary School and St Benedict’s School for a place in the grand final, which will take place at Belmay Primary School on Thursday.

Collier Primary School principal Kevin Saunders said it was fantastic for the school to have a team in the grand final.

“It’s a credit to the students and it’s a great success for the school because it cements the progress that we’ve made as a school,” he said.

“The competition allows the students to consolidate their knowledge of maths and personally it was fantastic to watch them problem solve and work.

“There are moments of silence as they work through the problems and then they are frantically running around.”
