Comedian Matt Storer on board paddle steamer for Fringe World

Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

WHILE some comedians look for the back door after performing their set, Matt Storer recognises he will not have that luxury on the Paddle Steamer Decoy.

The Canning Vale comedian will perform on the vessel with Dez Pondent and Geoff Stainton during Stand Up On The River, which takes place on February 2-4 as part of the Fringe World Festival.

“It’s definitely different performing on the Paddle Steamer, there’s no backstage so it means you are mingling with the audience before and after your performance.

“I’m planning on bringing my a-game to the show, I’ve performed on the boat before and it’s a great feeling to be going down the Swan River and performing.

“I’m hoping to bring my piano onto the boat but I’m not sure if that’s possible.”

“My career began after I won the state final of Triple J’s RAW Comedy,” he said.

“To make it that far was beyond my expectations, it went from zero to 100 very quickly and I was offered gigs after the final. My initial comedic style was about being out of the box and using clever wording but I’m now doing more observational and musical comedy, especially with my piano.”

Storer is also hosting a Star Wars game show at the Brisbane Hotel on February 15-19 as part of the Fringe World Festival. Visit www.fringeworld.com.au for tickets.
