Como mum creates app for easier house cleaning

Nadia BudihardjoSouthern Gazette

A COMO mum created a 21st-century house helper for busy parents and workers with her app that allows households to book cleaners in the area on demand.

FlashMop enables users to see the cleaners’ reviews, book instantly and pay them with cashless payment.

FlashMop creator Megan Harrison said the app weighed up all the factors when booking a cleaner and cut out phone calls for multiple quotes.

“The app allows you to enter the date that you’re available so you see which cleaners are also available on that day,” she said.

“Our cleaners all have police checks, they’ve come through a database, we’ve screened them and most importantly they are reviewed by the households that have used them.”

FlashMop’s database now has about 100 cleaners and 300 households all around Perth and down to Mandurah since its launch in October.

Ms Harrison said she was inspired to create the app while she journeyed through motherhood.

“I guess it came from my lack of time to do housecleaning and hearing that there’s so many people that are in the same position,” she said.

“All of us want to go back to work rather quickly after having kids and we thought of what can we offload and the first thing that comes up is cleaning the house.”

Ms Harrison said the app also offered job opportunities for those needing flexible working hours, including new parents.

“They have to have police clearance, a driver’s license and their own equipment but it would really be something great for university students or new mums that need to get out there,” she said.

“Every cleaner can nominate the time frames they’re available, they can also nominate the postcodes they’re willing to travel to.”

FlashMop is free to download from the appstore.
