RESIDENTS have banded together to raise concerns about a proposal for a 16m-high development on Clydesdale Street in Como.
The Yaran Property Group has submitted the proposed apartment complex to the City of South Perth, which is expected to considered by the Metro Central Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) in September.
The organisation submitted it as a four-storey 21-dwelling property with 24 carpark bays, 20 of which would be in a car stacking system, although the City is regarding the application as being five-storeys.
Yaran Property Group had proposals on Kishorn Road and Macrae Road in Applecross approved by the Metro Central JDAP earlier this year.
Concerns about the size of the Clydesdale Street property, the number of people living there and the traffic it would create are among the concerns raised. Philp Avenue resident Clive Richmond said his main issue was the density being proposed.
“When you consider that most of the dwellings have two or more cars, then that could more than 50 cars,” he said.
“They will have to park on the street or near Neill McDougall Park.
“Another issue is waste management; how are they going to fit 21 bins out the front of the property?
“I’ve spoken to residents along Clydesdale Street and Edgecombe Street and people are not happy about it.”
Yaran Property Group projects Aidan Gorjy spokesman said the proposed development was “fully compliant” and should be approved.
City of South Perth chief executive Geoff Glass said the wording of the applicant’s proposal related to the technical interpretation of the Canning Bridge Activity Centre Plan that did not consider a “mezzanine” as a storey.
The application was still being assessed by City officers against the provisions of the Canning Bridge Activity Centre Plan.
